For eight spring days, 26 of Florida’s top plein-air artists moved throughout Winter Park with their easels and paints in the second annual Paint Out. Using the Albin Polasek Museum & Sculpture Gardens as their base, they set out to capture the city’s scenic beauty and then display and offer their works for sale at the museum.

Nearly 1,000 runners converged on Showalter Field for one of the area’s largest track-and-field events – and most of the competitors could even tie their own shoes.

The young athletes ran their hearts out during the fifth annual Fast Start Invitational, a free event for elementary school students from Winter Park, Eatonville and Maitland.

Dr. Jacob “Jake” R. Rozier at Winter Park Memorial Hospital was the “go-to guy” on May 14, 1965, when my mother decided to make one more trip from Mount Dora to Winter Park – this time for my delivery. After the birth of my oldest brother, she suffered three late-term miscarriages until, under Rozier’s care, she successfully delivered another son. Five years later she arrived on the hospital steps pregnant with me, hopeful, prayerful and resolute for a full-term birth.
